What is VoIP?
VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol is a communications technology that allows traditional telephony services to operate over an internet connection. This can be for a single telephone number up to advanced PBX systems and offer a number advantages over regular cable based telephone systems.
The Benefits of VoIP
The major benefit of VoIP is the cost. Fixed line telephone systems require extensive infrastructure but with VoIP all you need is a data connection. This significantly reduces call costs and service related fees.
Waiting time is drastically reduced. There is no more waiting for weeks to have lines installed. You can have your new business phone number up and running within days.
If you are a new business and don’t yet have an internet connection you can simply use mobile data to send and receive calls using your business phone number.
VoIP calls typically use around 15MB – 20MB per hour of talk time.
VoIP allows your communication systems to grow with your business.
You could start off as a one-person operation and and, over time, extend your service up to a cloud-based PBX service with multiple staff members in multiple locations. No more expensive equipment or dedicated lines.
VoIP allows you to work from anywhere as long as you have a decent internet connection. Whether you are in the office, on the road or working from home, you use the same number.
You can carry your business with you in your mobile phone using a smartphone app. If you are not available to take calls, they can simply be transferred to another number or you could have your voicemails emailed to you.
You will never need to change your phone number if you relocate your business.
When you sign up for VoIP services you will receive a virtual number or VoIP number. This number can be a regular VoIP number (087) or a geographic number (011, 012, 033). This number will stay with you no matter your location.
If you already have a number, no problem, your current number can be ported to your VoIP account. This way you avoid all of the disruption nornmally associated with these kinds of changes.
